About

The Tonberg Ensemble presents a wide range of concerts and programs that reimagine the classical music experience. Founded with the goal of making large symphonic works performable by a chamber ensemble, this mission remains central to its artistic identity. At the same time, the ensemble’s repertoire embraces a broad spectrum of genres and styles.

The Tonberg Ensemble offers three distinct concert formats:

The Grand Concert follows the traditional classical concert model, featuring major symphonic works such as Mozart’s Symphony No. 40, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6, and Beethoven’s Violin and Piano Concertos.

The Musical Salon provides a more relaxed and informal atmosphere, ideal for banquet halls and similar venues. In this format, live music enhances the evening ambiance without the formal conventions of a classical concert. The repertoire focuses on chamber music, including works such as Astor Piazzolla’s The Four Seasons, as well as duos, trios, quartets, and other small ensemble formations.

The Immersive Evening is an experimental format designed to fully engage the audience. Concepts range from seating listeners within the ensemble, to collaborations with visual artists who create artwork during the performance, or themed evenings such as Baroque dance events with live music. Depending on the concept, the repertoire spans from Baroque music to contemporary works, including compositions by Swiss composers.

Through its concerts, the Tonberg Ensemble pursues a cultural and educational mission, inviting audiences to rediscover classical music, experience it from fresh perspectives, and engage with new artistic possibilities.
